Police Change Jakkrit approach to in-laws
Police investigators probing the murder of Jakkrit Panichpatikam are shifting their focus to personal conflicts Olympic shooter allegedly had with the relatives of his wife.
The line of research is based on the words of Jakkrit in a private letter he sent to a speaker known a few days before he was gunned down last Saturday.
Channel 3 news anchor Suthassanachinda Sorrayuth issued the letter Wednesday.
Police said they were still following other tracks as well, including Jakkrit had ties with a number of people who had conflicts with uniformed figures, said lead investigator, Pol Colonel Sukhun Phornmai. He said that these men might have planted an assault rifle M-16 was found when police searched the home of Jakkrit after the murder.
Police said a top military official had pressured Jakkrit to cancel a press conference with the latter planned to discuss the fact that his wife, Dr. Nitiwadee Pucharoenyos, had opened a bank safe without their written authorization. The unnamed official also convinced Jakkrit to discard a civil suit against the commercial bank involved, police said.

In the three-page letter to Sorrayuth, Jakkrit said that even his own mother had turned against him as a result of lies spread about him and his alleged misconduct. He wrote later accepted his explanation that he had been framed by some old friends, who said he was using illegal drugs and disillusioned.
According Sorrayuth, Jakkrit said his mother finally understood and accepted for his release after he was briefly detained by Nitiwadee allegedly assaulting.
The letter also accused Jakkrit another friend, Pol Lt Col Kraiwit Saenthaweesuk, trying to change the surety bond to another person, who may have set their bail application in danger.
He wanted Jakkrit Kraiwit to undergo drug rehabilitation during his administration. Jakkrit wrote in his letter that he had stopped using drugs at the time, and that the goal of Kraiwit was stealing all his money and property and of his wife.
Kraiwit, an officer of the Trafficking Division, have offered an explanation of his relationship with his superiors Jakkrit yesterday.
Confirmed its ties with Jakkrit and his wife, but refused to give further details on the death of Jakkrit or any possible motive for the murder of a journalist who interviewed him by phone, saying the time was not right.
Kraiwit, also known as Ratthawit, however told the media after Jakkrit wrote it stems from a misunderstanding. Jakkrit said after the bail actually realized he had misunderstood and his secretary to call him to say that Jakkrit wanted to see her to apologize, but Kraiwit responded that he did not have to do that because Kraiwit I was not angry with him and the case where he was charged with assault Jakkrit wife and mother, was still ongoing. Kraiwit Jakkrit hoped that things would work and women between the two with regard to family disputes. He said he had explained to his supervisors and researchers murder cases.
